2009 is our 30th Year!
The Golden Apple opened its doors in May of 1979. We've been in several locations, in several cities, but always a resource for parents and teachers. We are celebrating all this year, so watch for events and sales related to our milestone year, starting with our anniversary month of May!
Test Prep Season is Here..(Cue scary music)
Another round of standardized test is here... but don't despair, maybe the "test here test now" regime is finally coming to an end! Let's hope a new era of creativity and academic flexibility is upon us. In the meantime, we have several good standardized test preparation books in stock and ready to help teachers and students do the best they can. We have test prep books from Carney education, Creative Teaching Press and Steck Vaughn/Harcourt, along with resource materials that are not test specific, but provide excellent practice for the California tests. Ask us which one would be best for you.
Win A Visit from the Cat
Read Across America day is celebrated every year on March 3rd. Theodore Geisel's birthday has turned into a wonderful day to build excitement for books and reading. This year the Golden Apple has a trunkfull of fun available for your school, in the form of a full-size, "professional" costume of the Cat in the Hat. We're offering it free to a local school to have use of for Read Across America Day! Between now and Feb 20th, enter at the store to win the costume for a week. If you win first prize, your school will have the costume for as many appearance as you like from Feb 28th to March 3rd. (You need to provide someone to go inside the costume of course!) GATE Testing
Another ritual this time of year is GATE testing. We have many wonderful resources that benefit kids preparing for this test. Our books that build thinking skills and promote critical thinking are valuable for all students, not just those on the GATE track.

We've had a hard time getting globes recently - shipping costs on bulky items like globes were out of this world during the summer and fall. Obama Posters Now Available
We have a new President, and every teacher will want to update the Presidents display in their classroom. Besides individual posters of President Obama, there are posters and bulletin board sets featuring all presidents, including President Obama.

What's Older than The Golden Apple?
The Golden Apple is 30 Years old this year. That's really old, and it's hard to think of anything older than us. We're sponsoring a coloring contest this month and next to help us think of things older than us. Kids should draw a picture of something older than 30 years old, wishing the Golden Apple a happy birthday! We'll post entries in the store and announce a winner on May 1st.
