Summer Reading Lists

Summer is the best time to build readers, and build on skills learned this past year. Our lists are made up of a variety of reading; picture books, chapter books, non-fiction and program readers. Some books are part of a series. Advanced readers enjoy non-fiction books as well, and many intructional books make for good summer reading, both for projects and knowledge. We built our Reading Lists for Kids LEAVING the grade listed.

5th Graders are ready to be turned loose - again, lots of books have kids on their own, facing challenges without their parents help. Friends do count, and books at this level often include facing the world with a friend. Mysterys, adventure tales and fantasy fill our 5th grade list. Our selection:

The Alchemist - Scott

Holes - Sachar

5 Ancestors - Stone

The Gal With 500 Middle Names - Haddix

Matilda - Dahl

Ella Enchanted - Levine

The View From Saturday - Konigsburg

The Penderwicks - Birdsall

The Indian in the Cupboard - Banks

Maude March - Couloumbis
